#ShutDownSTEM Day

#ShutDownSTEM Day

Elizabeth Rogan, OSA CEO

The Optical Society (OSA) is joining academic institutions and science and engineering societies in the grassroots movement #ShutDownSTEM on Wednesday, 10 June in support of Black Lives Matter.

We ask you to join us in this day-long focus on racism in our community through education, action, and healing.

One important OSA Core Value is inclusivity. We believe that a higher level of inclusivity improves outcomes. We know that if we want to best serve the optics and photonics community, we need to make sure everyone’s voice is at the table.

It is our responsibility to reassess our efforts towards combating racism and building welcoming environments.

As part of this effort, OSA is shutting down all normal operations so OSA staff have the time to participate in activities and access resources as suggested by #ShutDownSTEM organizers, and we ask you to join us in the coming days, weeks, months, and years to make it a priority to address racism within our community.
