Ultrafast Light Sources for Attosecond Chemistry

Attosecond science provides powerful tools to probe electron dynamics in matter. Recent advances in few-femtosecond UV sources and attosecond VUV/soft X-ray sources have enabled chemical control through charge-directed reactivity.

About the Speaker

Francesca Calegari leads the Attosecond Science group at the Center for Free-Electron Laser Science (CFEL) at DESY. She is also Professor of Physics at the University of Hamburg. She is widely recognized for her key contributions in advancing attosecond technology and her pioneering studies in attosecond chemistry. Among other distinctions, she received the ICO Prize and the Ernst Abbe Medal from the International Commission of Optics, she was awarded two prestigious ERC grants and she is a Fellow of Optica. Calegari serves as chair of the PIER Executive Board – the central strategic partnership between DESY and the University of Hamburg and she is a speaker of the cluster of excellence “Advanced Imaging of Matter”, a major research program in Hamburg.
