Optica welcomes Jose Pozo to lead outreach to optics and photonics industry

WASHINGTON - Optica, Advancing Optics and Photonics Worldwide, today announces a new Chief Technology Officer, Jose Pozo. Dr. Pozo will lead efforts to build relationships across the diverse community of optics and photonics companies around the globe.

Building on 25 years of experience in the photonics industry, Jose Pozo will now drive the growth of Optica’s portfolio of industry-focused programs. Connecting Optica Corporate Members with end-users of photonics will be one of his immediate priorities.

“There has never been a better time than now for the world to invest in photonics, as it is finally a well-established term used by the main high-tech multinationals worldwide” explains Pozo. “Breakthrough innovation in areas like metalenses, hybrid photonic integrated circuits, LIDAR, SPADs, femtosecond lasers, biosensors, neural networks and quantum computing means that strong business cases are building for early adopters.”

“Jose’s expertise in identifying emerging markets and end-user needs/opportunities across sectors will be a tremendous asset to our Optica corporate community,” stated Elizabeth Rogan, CEO of Optica. “Our leadership was familiar with Jose’s depth of knowledge and impressed by his innovative approach to serving corporations—especially in the area of facilitating mutually beneficial business connections.”

Dr. Pozo added, “I want to build on the knowledge and team spirit that already exists at Optica. To succeed, every company needs trusted partners across their supply chain. Optica has the breadth and depth in its membership community to connect in a unique way and guide global photonics growth.”

Grand challenges that many photonics companies face include:

  • the impact of a global chip shortage,
  • the continuous search for qualified talent,
  • access to affordable and trustworthy market data,
  • selecting the right investors at the right time,
  • access to test-before-invest technologies,
  • engaging with end-users,
  • partnering with selected innovative start-ups and scale-ups that will give the company concerned the competitive advantage,
  • effective product promotion by clarifying their unique selling points.

Dr. Pozo will be available for corporate member discussions next week (6-10 March 2022) during OFC, the largest global conference and exhibition for optical communications and networking professionals. Online meetings with a wide array of photonics industry contacts will be announced shortly.
