About the Speaker
Piotr Masłowski is the Director of the Institute of Physics at Nicolaus Copernicus University (NCU) in Toruń, Poland, where he serves as an Associate Professor. He earned his Ph.D. in Physics from NCU in 2008, specializing in the spectral line shapes of atomic species.
Throughout his career, Dr. Masłowski has held several prestigious international research positions. He conducted significant work on cavity-ringdown spectroscopy at NIST (Gaithersburg) under Joseph Hodges and spent two years in Professor Jun Ye’s renowned group at JILA, University of Colorado Boulder, specializing in direct optical frequency comb spectroscopy. Additionally, he contributed to the
development of strontium optical lattice atomic clocks at the National Laboratory for Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics in Toruń.
His primary research expertise lies at the intersection of:
- Frequency Metrology: Advancing the precision of time and frequency standards.
- Optical Enhancement Cavities: Developing novel measurement techniques for ultrasensitive detection.
- High-Precision Molecular Spectroscopy: Probing molecular structures with extreme accuracy.
Beyond his laboratory work, Dr. Masłowski contributes to the national and global scientific community, holding several high-level administrative and organizational positions. Since 2015, he has served as the Scientific Director of the Institute of Physics at NCU, transitioning to the role of Director of the Institute in 2024. His international leadership is further highlighted by his roles as Program Chair (2021) and General Chair (2023, 2025) for the CLEO®/Europe-EQEC conference series.
