About the Speaker
Prof. Cordoba-Ramirez earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in 2017, during which he conducted research as a visiting PhD researcher at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2). He subsequently held a Postdoctoral Researcher position in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). Following this, he joined the Department of Electronic Engineering at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) as an Assistant Professor. During his tenure at UFMG, he returned to the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) as a Senior Researcher and Visiting Professor.
His research centers on applied and computational electromagnetism, optics, and photonics, with a particular focus on nanophotonics and biosensors for advanced diagnostics. His contributions drive innovation in light-matter interactions, electromagnetic modeling, and the development of cutting-edge diagnostic devices.
Prof. Cordoba-Ramirez is an active member of several professional societies, including the Brazilian Photonics Society (SBFoton), the Brazilian Microelectronics Society (SBMicro), the Brazilian Microwave and Optoelectronics Society (SBMO), OPTICA, the IEEE Photonics Society, and the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. In addition, he was selected as an OPTICA Ambassador (Class of 2022), is an IEEE Senior Member, and a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellow (2026).
