About the Speaker
Rajesh Menon combines nanofabrication, computation and optical engineering to advance inverse-designed photonics, flat lenses and unconventional imaging. His work has produced numerous peer-reviewed publications, 45 patents and 4 spin-off companies. He is a Member of the US National Academy of Inventors, Fellow of Optica and SPIE, Senior Member of the IEEE, and IEEE Photonics Society Distinguished Lecturer. His honors include a NASA Early-Stage Innovations Award, an NSF CAREER Award and the ICO Prize. As CTO and Co-Founder of Oblate Optics, he has taken flat lenses from the lab to manufactured products, now sold through the Edmund Optics catalog and supplied to defense, space and industrial customers. Rajesh directs the Laboratory for Optical Nanotechnologies at the University of Utah, where he is a tenured full Professor, and has worked closely with NVESD, ONR, DARPA, NRL, AFOSR and NASA. He holds S.M. and Ph.D. degrees from MIT.
