About the Speaker

Dr. Robert Lee joined Corning in May 2013 as the portfolio manager based in our global R&D lab in Korea.  In October 2015, he transitioned to Sullivan Park as the Surfaces Research Manager and since May 2017, he has led the Thin Films and Surfaces Research Directorate responsible for building competency and supporting the businesses in thin films, functional coatings, printing, semiconductor processing and surface engineering innovations.  Since April 2024, as the Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) Platform program director, has led an agile cross-functional team across R&D and Optical Communications business to enable the next generation of optical connectivity.

Prior to joining Corning, Robert worked in a variety of technology, portfolio and management roles for 16 years at several different companies. He began his career at 3M Austin Sector Laboratory as a Senior Scientist in 1997 and then joined Lucent Technologies working in DWDM optical transport systems.  At Xponent Photonics (later Hoya), a start-up developing highly integrated photonic subassemblies, his responsibilities ranged from chip fabrication to automated assembly and transfer to contract manufacturers. Most recently, Robert worked at Intellectual Ventures in both Seoul and Singapore as a technology analyst developing IP portfolio in wireless and optical communications.

Robert received his B.S. and Ph.D. in Applied Physics from California Institute of Technology.
