Travel Tip: Electrical Adaptors in the United States
If you’re traveling to the United States from Europe, don’t forget to bring a travel adaptor for your electronic devices.
In the United States, plug types A and B are used—these have two flat parallel pins (and sometimes a third round grounding pin).
The U.S. operates on a 120V supply voltage and 60Hz frequency, which differs from the 230V / 50Hz system used in much of Europe.
For travelers from the United Kingdom, your standard Type G plug (with three rectangular pins in a triangular pattern) will not fit U.S. outlets, so a Type A/B adaptor is essential.
Consider bringing a voltage converter if your device is not dual-voltage (check the label for “100–240V”).
Having the correct adaptor will ensure you can safely charge your phone, laptop, and other electronics during your trip.
