About the Speaker
Phil Watson is an experienced tech innovation executive and organizational leader with a history of mapping emerging technology into real-world applications. He’s currently leading a project at X, Alphabet’s moonshot factory, deploying cutting-edge computational techniques to enable design of previously impossible devices that will power the next wave of datacenter computing. This is just one of many projects initiated under Phil’s earlier leadership of X’s “Rapid Evaluation” team — the group responsible for generating new moonshot projects.
Phil’s experience in electro-optics and computation-enabled hardware design began with his doctoral work in emerging display technologies, and continued through various projects in his career. Prior to joining X, Alphabet’s Moonshot Factory, he led a variety of new optical technology development and system integration efforts at 3M, managing technology innovation teams in the U.S. and Singapore while also serving on the Genesis Committee, 3M’s premier internal seed investment granting organization.
