Optica announces 2022 Treasurer’s Award recipient

Kari Apter is recognized for her service to Optica’s international volunteers

WASHINGTON – Optica (formerly OSA), Advancing Optics and Photonics Worldwide, today announced that Kari Apter, senior director, research and program development, has been selected as this year’s recipient of the Optica Treasurer's Award. Apter was selected for her “service as a selfless leader and respected ambassador to Optica’s most valuable resource, its global community of volunteers and members.”

“Kari has a deep understanding of Optica and its key stakeholders. She has played an instrumental role in developing relationships with our volunteers around the globe,” said Elizabeth Rogan, CEO of Optica. “We appreciate Kari’s commitment to our volunteers.”

During her long and varied tenure at Optica, Apter has worked in several program areas, including meetings, exhibits, awards, global programs, and the executive office. She was instrumental in the development of CLEO/Europe and CLEO/Pacific Rim and continues to find opportunities for the society to expand and grow its programs and services around the world. Two current focus areas are the implementation of the society’s overarching strategic framework and growing staff presence outside the U.S.

She will be recognized at the 17 October 2022 Frontiers in Optics + Laser Science (FiO) Awards Ceremony and Reception.

Established in 2016, the Optica Treasurer's Award recognizes an Optica staff member who contributes significantly to organizational excellence, promotes and enacts innovative solutions, and exemplifies inspirational leadership. Candidates are nominated by Optica members and staff.

Apter reflected, “I am deeply honored to receive the 2022 Optica Treasurer’s Award. To be recognized by my peers and our Optica members, is a noteworthy personal career achievement. Thank you!”
