About the Speaker
Dr. Lenore McMackin is an interdisciplinary technical leader, research engineer, and entrepreneur with extensive hands-on experience designing proof-of-concept optical experiments, building and testing product prototypes, managing teams and engaging at all technical and corporate levels. She has the demonstrated ability to lead research pivots and drive product development results while instilling a common vision in all team members. She has held senior technical and c-suite roles at numerous startups in display, opto-electronic and semiconductor industries.
With decades of basic and applied research experience Lenore is broadly skilled in optics modeling, system design and assembly; expert at physical optics, interferometric and computational 3D imaging techniques including LiDAR, compressive sensing, holography and tomography, infrared sensing and spectral imaging; She specializes in leading the development of products, processes and technology for venture funded startup companies, demonstrating expert technical vision, building interdisciplinary teams and effectively interacting at all corporate levels from customers, to engineers, executives, board members and investors.
Some highlights of her career at numerous startup companies are innovating a high-resolution, multi-beam computational LiDAR front end and commercializing the first “compressive sensing” computational imaging cameras for surveillance, medical and environmental applications. She’s led multi-disciplinary teams to design unique display tech including miniaturized video projection engines, a fully-automated 3-color interferometric printer that produced the largest hologram ever made, and also built and demonstrated the world’s first high-speed optical tomography system able to construct detailed visualizations of dynamic air turbulence.
Lenore has over 40 technical publications and 10 patents. She is a Fellow of Optica and has served multiple terms as Director on Optica’s board and on numerous committees. She currently works in Silicon Valley as an optical engineer at Aurora Innovations developing long-range lidar for self-driving trucks. The company has recently launched driverless freight delivery in Texas.
