Laser Beam Shaping
How to Choose the Right Optics for Your Application:
What makes an optic the right choice for your laser system? This lecture provides a practical introduction to key optical parameters and how they influence performance. Learn how refractive and reflective components, especially aspheres and freeforms, improve system integration and affect beam quality. Topics include surface quality, coatings, and the role of aberrations, with real-world examples and application-oriented insights.
Laser Beam Shaping:
Discover how tailored beam shaping can unlock the full potential of your laser. This lecture explores methods to manipulate intensity distributions and focal shapes using aspheres, axicons, DOEs, and more. Gain insights into smart component selection and strategies to reduce speckle, improve uniformity, and enhance application-specific performance.
About the Speaker
After joining asphericon in 2010 as an optical designer, Dr. Fuchs focused early on linking manufacturing and metrology of aspherics and freeform optics with questcaions in optical design. As Vice President Strategy & Innovation, she now coordinates all R&D activities at asphericon as well as strategic product development.
She has already been able to register 6 patent families and is the inaugural winner of the Optica Kevin P. Thompson Optical Design Innovator Award. Furthermore, she has been working as an Associated Editor for Optics Express from 2018 to 2024 and is the author of more than 60 publications. She holds a doctorate in physics from the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena. In 2020, she was elected Fellow of OPTICA and serves as Director at Large on the Board of Directors of Optica from 2023 to 2025.
