Michael is responsible for the extreme optics and astrophotonics research theme at Vrije Universiteit Brussel’s B-PHOT campus in Pajottegem, Belgium. His work focuses on the development of ultra-high-precision freeform optics and gratings for space applications and next-generation gravitational wave detectors. He is involved in major European initiatives including ESA Envision Venspec-H, the Einstein Telescope Pathfinder and Einstein Telescope, and the upgrade of Virgo. He also contributes to the EU-funded Interreg SmartSkills project and is a member of the EU PhotonHub Phactory Evaluation Team, leading outreach activities in Space and Security.

About the Speaker

Michael is responsible for the extreme optics and astrophotonics research theme at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel B-PHOT campus Pajottegem (BE). Research encompasses the generation of extreme accuracy freeform optics and gratings for space applications and the 3rd generation gravitational wave detectors. Involved in the ESA Envision Venspec-H instrument, Einstein Telescope Pathfinder, Einstein Telescope and the upcoming upgrade of Virgo. Involved in the EU funded project Interreg SmartSkills on education of industry co-workers on Einstein Telescope technologies Member of the EU PhotonHub Phactory Evaluation Team and outreach workpackage leader for Space and Security.
