Dr. Darius Bunandar, Co-founder and Chief Scientist at Lightmatter, spearheads the company's pioneering research and development in novel hardware solutions, with a significant focus on advancing 3D photonic architectures for next-generation AI infrastructure. Drawing on his deep expertise in nanophotonics, Darius leads the charge in innovating the silicon photonics integration, advanced packaging, and system-level designs that underpin Lightmatter's transformative approach to overcoming communication and packaging challenges in the AI era. His work is pivotal in realizing the potential of 3D photonics to deliver unprecedented bandwidth, power efficiency, and scalability for complex computational workloads. Darius holds over 50 patents and has written over 40 multidisciplinary journal articles. He earned his PhD in Physics from MIT and dual BS degrees in Physics and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.
