About the Speaker

Dr. Wladick Hartmann studied physics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), focusing his research during his diploma thesis on superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs), exploring their potential applications in quantum information processing and communication.

To broaden his expertise, Wladick pursued a master's degree during a stay abroad in lasers and optoelectronics at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, gaining valuable insights into optical systems and laser technologies. He then went to the University of Münster for his Ph.D., where he conducted groundbreaking research on nanophotonic integrated spectrometers utilizing tailored disorder in combination with waveguide integrated SNSPDs.

Embracing his entrepreneurial spirit, Wladick co-founded Pixel Photonics GmbH, a pioneering quantum technology startup in Münster, alongside four colleagues. The company specializes in developing state-of-the-art traveling wave SNSPD systems catering to the emerging quantum computing and quantum key distribution (QKD) markets. Wladick’s current role at Pixel Photonics is co-managing director and CTO.
