Clemens Matthiesen

Oxford Ionics, Quantum Science & Engineering Team Lead

About the Speaker

Dr Clemens Matthiesen leads the Quantum Science & Engineering team at Oxford Ionics, a leading global quantum computing company building high-performance, full-stack quantum computers based on trapped ions. Before joining Oxford Ionics in 2020, Clemens earned his PhD in quantum optics at the University of Cambridge in 2013, was awarded EPSRC Doctoral Prize and Junior Research Fellowships for postdoctoral work on quantum networks also at Cambridge, and then conducted cutting-edge research on trapped ions and electrons at UC Berkeley for several years. Clemens and his team hold the record for qubit entangling gate fidelities across academia and industry, and focus on demonstrating scalable quantum computing architectures with foundry-manufactured semiconductor chips
