Program Overview

Optical frequency combs are precise rulers which have been used for applications such as optical clocks and spectroscopy. Generating on-chip microcavity optical frequency combs for biological and chemical applications is an emerging area that is poised to have an impact throughout the optics and photonics community by significantly improving the sensitivity and specificity of biochemical sensors. The application of frequency comb technology to biology, chemistry, and medicine can lead to advances in molecular diagnostics as well as an improved understanding of disease mechanisms.

Scope and Goals

Through invited talks, panels, moderated discussion periods, and informal networking, the program will explore topics including on-chip frequency comb generation, novel materials, device theory, modeling, and design, as well as advanced manufacturing techniques.

The goal of this incubator is to bring together stakeholders from various fields, including frequency combs specialists, optical sensor developers, biologists, chemists, government and non-government sponsors, and industrial/business partners to develop state-of-the-art optical sensing capabilities and breakthrough opportunities. This incubator also aims to foster collaboration in the development of portable sensors.

Meeting Schedule

The program, including breakfasts and lunches, will be held at Optica Global Headquarters, 2010 Massachusetts Ave, NW, Washington, DC 20036. Dinners, which are also included in the registration fee, will be held at local restaurants. All times approximate, check back for a detailed agenda.
