The Digital Holography and Three-Dimensional Imaging Topical Meeting provides a forum for science, technology, applications of digital holographic, three-dimensional imaging and display methods.
This highly interdisciplinary meeting is related to science, technology and applications of digital holography and three-dimensional imaging. Topic areas include interferometry, quantitative phase imaging, transport of intensity methods, 3D imaging and display systems including VR/AR, computer generated holograms, metasurface holograms, digital holography with various light sources including coherent to incoherent and X-ray to terahertz waves, polarization and dynamic holography, compressive holography, specific image and signal processing and digital holographic methods for microscopy, tomography, optical processing, lithography, metrology, scattering media inspection, remote sensing, non-linear optical systems, bio- and nano-photonics.

Advances in Automated Disease Identification with Digital Holography
This Plenary is an overview of advances in automated disease identification with low-cost field portable digital holographic systems. In specific, recent applications of digital holography and dedicated algorithms for rapid COVID-19 detection will be presented.
About the Speaker
Bahram Javidi is Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor at University of Connecticut, the highest honor bestowed on faculty, based on research, teaching, and service. His interests are in a broad range of transformative imaging approaches using optics and photonics. He has made seminal contributions to multi-dimensional imaging from nano to macro scales. He has over 1100 publications cited over 41000 times (h-index=102) according to Google Scholar. His research has been recognized by awards from major societies, including The Optica (OSA) Emmett Leith Medal (2021), Optica C. E. K. Mees Medal (2019); IEEE William Streifer Scientific Achievement Award (2019); Optica Joseph Fraunhofer Award (2018); and European Physical Society Prize for Applied Aspects of Quantum Electronics and Optics (2015). He was awarded the IEEE Donald Fink Paper Prize (2008); John Simon-Guggenheim Foundation Fellow Award (2008); Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Prize (2007); SPIE Technology Achievement Award (2008); and SPIE Dennis Gabor Award (2005).

Machine Learning for 3D Optical Imaging
In optical diffraction tomography (ODT), the 3D shape of an object is retrieved from multiple holographic recordings of its 2D projections. Machine learning can be used to augment the performance of ODT by correcting distortions in the reconstruction due to the limited number of projections. We will describe two approaches for accomplishing this. The first relies on digital phantoms that are used to generate examples and serve as the ground truth for training the neural network. The second approach relies on the constraints imposed by the physics of the problem to train the neural network that produces corrected 3D images.
About the Speaker
Demetri Psaltis is Professor of Optics and the Director of the Optics Laboratory at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL). He was a professor at the California Institute of Technology from 1980 to 2006. He moved to EPFL in 2007. His current research interests are imaging, holography, biophotonics, machine learning, nonlinear optics, electrolysis for hydrogen production and optofluidics. Dr. Psaltis is a fellow of IEEE, Optica, the European Optical Society and the Society for Photo-optical Systems Engineering. He received the International Commission of Optics Prize, the Humboldt Award, the Leith Medal, the Gabor Prize and the Joseph Fraunhofer Award/Robert M. Burley Prize.

The conference banquet will take place in one of the most beautiful Dining Halls in Cambridge. The 19th Century Dining Hall is very much in the heart of Corpus Christi College; located between the New and Old Courts, serving meals to all Fellows, students and staff every day.
The Dining Hall is new gothic in style and the walls are lined with portraits of previous Masters. The upper walls are wallpapered with design by Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin (1762 - 1832).
There is a $25 banquet RSVP fee.
