Program Overview
Recent advances in machine learning have generated remarkable performance improvements in computer vision, robotics, natural language processing, self-driving cars and several other disciplines. This incubator will investigate the prospects of machine learning methodologies for processing and communicating optical information collected by optical systems.
Scope and Topics
The goal of this incubator is to bring together experts from machine learning, optical information processing and communication to explore the ways in which these communities can collaborate and generate new science that affects these disciplines.
Through invited talks, breakout sessions and moderated discussion periods and informal networking, the program will introduce recent advances in machine learning for researchers in optics and introduce optical data handling problems to machine learning researchers. In addition, the potential for new science and applications in areas such as biomedical imaging/microscopy, machine learning for managing optical networks and enhancing their performance, neuro-optical computing and remote sensing will be addressed.

Meeting Schedule
The program, including breakfasts and lunches, will be held at Optica Global Headquarters, 2010 Massachusetts Ave, NW, Washington, DC 20036. Dinners, which are also included in the registration fee, will be held at local restaurants. All times approximate, check back for a detailed agenda.
