AGPhotonics announces Vulcan: A new integrated photonic product line for free-space optical communication terminals.
Breakthrough photonic integration cuts size, weight, and power — enabling high-speed laser communications for UAVs, satellites, and remote communities.
Málaga, Spain – September 10th 2025 – AGPhotonics today announced the launch of Vulcan series, a product line of fully integrated free-space optical communication systems. The company will present the first public technology showcase of Vulcan at SPIE Security + Defence 2025 in Madrid on September 16th 2025.
Vulcan represents a step change in optical wireless communications by moving from bulky, mechanical systems to chip-scale photonic integration. AGPhotonics’ technology delivers fiber-class data speeds without fiber by integrating antennas, beam steering, and optical transceiver functions onto a single photonic chip. Its ultra-compact footprint allows cost-effective deployment of FSO technology across a wide range of markets, including Telecom, Defense, Disaster recovery and Space markets.
"With Vulcan, we’re proving that high-speed optical communications no longer require bulky, power-hungry equipment," said Pablo Ginel, Co-founder of AGPhotonics. "This breakthrough opens the door to connecting places and platforms that have never had access to reliable, high-capacity links."
“Integrated photonics has the potential to change free-space optical communications: it delivers miniaturization, efficiency, and scalability to enable reliable links in applications where it was previously impossible” said Jose Pozo, CTO of OPTICA. “From mobile platforms to dense urban deployments, unlocking new environments and accelerating the adoption of high-capacity connectivity.”
AGPhotonics will release the first product in the Vulcan series during the course of 2026, introducing a breakthrough in optical wireless communications. With this launch, the company seeks to expand the boundaries of global connectivity, taking ultra-high-capacity networks beyond the fiber grid. Vulcan marks the beginning of a new chapter in how the world connects.
