Agile Project Management in the Laser Industry
About the Speaker

Christoph received the Master of Science degree in optics, mechanics, electronics and computer science at the University of Applied Sciences in Kiel in 2003. Since over 20 years he has been developing new products for the bio instrumentation / semiconductor market and is currently the Research and Development Department Manager at Coherent Corp responsible for the development of deep UV diode pumped solid state and visible low and high power optical pumped semiconductor lasers. He was the project manager of the technology awards winning product Sapphire, OBIS LS and also the disruptive development of the OBIS XT. He headed / built up international expert teams and planned workspaces, cleanroom and laboratory environments for >100 R&D engineers. Before working for Coherent Corp he started his R&D-career in the photonics industry at Heidelberger and Spectra-Physics in Mountain View.

Christoph leads the development of Project Management at Coherent Lasersystems GmbH & Co. KG, training and coaching junior and senior Project Managers following the legacy waterfall, but also agile approaches of the SCRUM framework. He introduced agile rituals with the implementation of SCRUM in the physical high-tech industry already ten years ago as a bottom-up initiative in R&D following a release driven development process introducing roles like SCRUM Master and rituals like daily SCRUMs using SCRUM-Boards and Retrospectives. State of the art agile Project Management evolutions has been followed through the frequent attendance several conferences and interaction with other companies in the optical industry using the agile approach. After training >100 engineers the SCRUM framework he is currently working on the implementation of the agile mindset in manufacturing engineering, operations and administration inside Coherent Corp with the longterm goal of the introduction of self-organizing teams.
