OIC Best Student Paper Award and Student Financial Support

We are pleased to announce that the first OIC Best Student Paper Award, with a stipend of $1000, goes to William H. Stevens, University of Tennessee Space Institute, Tullahoma, TN, USA. The paper is entitled “Ice Film Thickness Measurements on a Cryogenically Cooled Gold Mirror under High Vacuum Conditions”. Congratulations to William Stevens!
To encourage students’ participation and recognize their contribution to the advancement of the science, technology and applications of optical interference coatings, the Optical Interference Coating (OIC) conference committee has decided to set up the Best Student Paper Award for the OIC conferences (held every three years). The best student paper will be selected by a selection committee and the award with a stipend of $1000 will be given to the first author of the paper for each OIC conference. The selection committee consists of the OIC Program Committee and Advisory Committee. The papers will be evaluated based on the content and quality of the 3-page summaries, oral and poster presentations.
To be qualified as a student paper, the first author and the presenter of the paper must be a undergraduate, master or Ph.D. student when submitting the paper to the OIC conference. The paper must be presented at the conference as both oral and poster presentations by the student. All student papers, that meet the above qualification, will be automatically considered by the selection committee, unless otherwise notified. As a condition of the award, the winner of the student paper must prepare a manuscript and submit it to the Applied Optics Feature Issue of the OIC conference for that year. The article in the feature issue will be notified in respect to the students award.
The first OIC Best Student Paper Award will be given for the OIC 2016 conference to be held from June 19 to 24, in Tucson, Arizona, USA. The winner will be announced immediately after the conference on the OIC 2016 conference website.

OIC Student Financial Support Application
With the corporate contribution dedicated to the OIC 2016 conference, the OIC 2016 conference is able to provide financial support to a limited number of students. The support, up to $500/student, can cover part of the student travel cost, including: transportation, accommodation, registration, food, etc. To be qualified for the financial support, the student has to enroll in a fulltime undergraduate, master or Ph. D. program and will present a paper at the OIC conference as the author and presenter. In addition, the application form has to be submitted to Laura Spencer at lspencer@osa.org before June 17, 2016. The approval of the support will be based on needs and merits.
