Optical Metrology of Freeforms and the Importance of Geometric Knowledge
About the Speaker

Cormic Merle received his Bachelor of Science in Optical Sciences from University of Rochester in 1991.  In his 30+ year career he has built a foundation of technical understanding and leadership across a broad spectrum of optical technologies, from high-powered laser development at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics, to colorimeter instrumentation at Lucid Technologies and Datacolor, to precision optics component fabrication, system integration, and associated metrology method development at Kodak/L3Harris.

In his role as Director of Metrology Systems with Arizona Optical Metrology he leads the Metrology Systems division based in Rochester, NY.  His group is focused on developing complete metrology solutions for complex optical components and subsystems - novel solutions that enable applications and industries from consumer electronics VR headsets to defense and commercial satellite constellations, big science instrumentation, and critical systems in semiconductor and photolithography applications.
