Optoelectronic Integration Trends and Applications

Energy consumption in optical networking for ethernet, data centers, 5G, and other emerging applications such as quantum photonics and LiDAR is soaring because of the rapidly growing data traffic. The bottleneck is the limited voltage-bandwidth performance of existing integrated photonics solutions, which poses a serious challenge for meeting the tight power consumption requirements from network builders. In this session, HyperLight will talk about their breakthrough solution which is an integrated photonics platform based on thin-film lithium niobate. This scalable photonics platform offers sub-volt electro-optic modulators with a 3-dB bandwidth > 100 GHz as well as monolithically integrated ultralow loss passive optical components. This emerging platform would save building and running costs for network operators and enable a wide range of high speed and power efficient applications.

Christian Reimer, Co-Founder and Head of Product, HyperLight Corporation

Dr. Christian Reimer is a physicist and entrepreneur working in the fields of nonlinear optics, integrated photonics, and quantum optics. He received graduate degrees from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany, Heriot-Watt University in Scotland, and the National Institute of Scientific Research in Canada. He then worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University, before becoming Co-Founder and Head of Product of HyperLight Corporation responsible for driving the company’s product vision and development. He is also in-charge of defining and managing the product’s roadmap based on HyperLight’s company strategies and vision. HyperLight is a Venture-Capital funded company specializing on high bandwidth, low power, cost efficient, and scalable integrated lithium niobate technologies for ultra-high performance photonic solutions.
