Terahertz and Millimeter-Waves Science (PT)
This group will advance the science and applications of electromagnetic waves from ~30 GHz to 10 THz. Its core interests begin with the generation, detection and modulation of THz/mm‑wave radiation via photonic, electronic and hybrid approaches; extended to fundamental interactions with matter and encompass propagation, imaging through complex media and system‑level integration. Application areas include ultrabroadband wireless links, security and nondestructive screening (from agrifood to pharmaceuticals), biomedical imaging and therapy, spectroscopy and materials characterization, strong‑field ultrafast control, photocatalysis, astrophysics, atmospheric science and quantum technologies. By uniting researchers from electronics, optics and materials forums around shared THz goals, TMWS will accelerate cross‑disciplinary collaboration, promote standards and best practices, and drive the translation of laboratory breakthroughs into real‑world solutions that address the “THz gap” in communications, energy and biomedical sectors.
