Join the Optica Online Industry Meeting on New Space to explore what it takes to manufacture and deploy space photonics at constellation scale.
New Space has changed what satellite operators and spacecraft manufacturers need from photonics. Optical terminals, photonic payloads and other advanced optical subsystems are increasingly required by the hundred, and soon by the thousand. The challenge is therefore shifting from demonstrating performance in orbit to achieving the production yield, supply-chain resilience, packaging, qualification, integration and cost needed for repeatable deployment. The meeting follows the data path, from the satellite that generates the data, through optical links in orbit, down to the ground, and asks at each step what the supply chain must deliver.
This meeting brings together satellite operators and manufacturers, optical communications and payload specialists, integrated photonics companies, packaging and assembly providers, and component suppliers to examine where the real bottlenecks lie.
Discussion will address optical inter-satellite and space-to-ground links, including atmospheric turbulence, adaptive optics and the economics of optical ground stations, integration of optical payloads into serial-production spacecraft, PIC-based technologies, packaging and assembly at volume, qualification strategies, and the manufacturing and supply-chain requirements needed to scale New Space systems.
