Probing a sample with polarized light provides detailed insights into its polarimetric properties, which can be leveraged across a wide range of applications. Optical polarimetric techniques are particularly attractive due to their cost-effectiveness, speed, non-contact and non-destructive approach, making them suitable for in situ, real-time measurements.

Over the past two decades, several imaging Mueller matrix polarimetric systems have been developed at LPICM, Ecole Polytechnique. Our theoretical and experimental studies have demonstrated that Mueller matrix images acquired in either Fourier or real space enable comprehensive characterization of complex media, including layered, patterned, scattering, anisotropic, and absorbing samples.

This presentation will highlight the potential of imaging Mueller polarimetry for diverse applications, ranging from semiconductor metrology to biomedical imaging. Future perspectives on theoretical advancements and instrumentation developments of imaging Mueller polarimetry for real-world applications will also be discussed.
