Optica Online Industry Meeting: Space Optics
13 April 2027 10:00 - 11:30
Eastern Daylight/Summer Time (US & Canada) (UTC -04:00)
Join us for the Optica Online Industry Meeting on Free Space Optics, exploring how fiber-equivalent connectivity can be delivered without physical infrastructure to meet growing global bandwidth demands. As demand for high-speed communication outpaces fiber deployment, free-space optical (FSO) technologies are gaining momentum across last-mile connectivity, inter-building networks, and inter-satellite links in low Earth orbit constellations. This session will examine the opportunities and technical challenges shaping the future of FSO, including atmospheric turbulence, beam pointing and tracking, weather resilience, and emerging quantum communication capabilities.
This session will bring together optical communication engineers, system architects, component developers, and network operators to discuss terrestrial and space-based FSO deployments, adaptive optics for turbulence mitigation, and beam acquisition and tracking systems. Attendees will gain insights into commercial deployment performance, inter-satellite optical links, and the growing role of free-space quantum key distribution in enabling secure next-generation communication networks.
