Imaging systems are increasingly expected to do more than produce better pictures. Across healthcare, biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, semiconductor inspection, Earth observation and remote sensing, the challenge is to extract the right information from light and turn it into reliable, actionable decisions.
Advances in detector technologies, spectral and hyperspectral sensing, computational imaging, novel illumination and AI-assisted analysis are enabling imaging systems to capture information that conventional architectures could not readily access. At the same time, real-world deployment demands trade-offs between resolution, sensitivity, speed, field of view, system complexity, robustness and cost.
This Optica Online Industry Meeting will bring together end-users, imaging-system developers and photonics technology providers to explore how these trade-offs change across applications and what is required to move advanced imaging technologies from demonstration into practical deployment. The discussion will examine how optical hardware, detectors and computational processing can be designed together; which additional optical information genuinely creates value for the end-user; and what technical, manufacturing and integration challenges still limit adoption of next-generation imaging systems.
