Awards & Distinctions

Fellow Uli Lemmer received the Diploma degree from RWTH Aachen University in 1990 and a PhD from the University of Marburg in 1995. After his PhD, he held a post-doctoral position at the University of California Santa Barbara and then became a group leader at the University of Munich. He is currently Professor and Director of the Light Technology Institute in the Karlsruhe School of Optics and Photonics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany. Lemmer received the Esther Hoffman Beller Medal in 2018.

Lemmer’s research is concentrated in the field of printable organic and inorganic semiconductors for optoelectronic applications. He has made important contributions to the spectroscopy of conjugated polymers, and he was one of the pioneers of organic semiconductor lasers. His group has realized highly-efficient solution- processed organic solar cells and organic light emitting devices (OLEDs). In recent years, his team has also developed printed optoelectronic sensor systems and large-area nanostructured light management foils.
