Fellow Richart E. Slusher received his PhD in Physics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1965.

His research in optical and quantum physics was at Bell Laboratories from 1965-2007. He directed a research department there in optical, quantum, and device physics from 1977 to 2005.

He is currently a Principal Research Scientist at the Georgia Tech Research Institute.

Slusher has been awarded the Arthur Schawlow Prize and the Max Born Award.
