2025 International Day of Light
It all started with, “We should have a celebration on the International Day of Light.”
Then: “It should involve the Optica Student Chapters.” And: “We can ask them to post photos from their events.” Finally: “And Optica can do a 24-hour, round-the-clock social media campaign sharing photos from chapters.”
We weren't sure it could happen, but our global community of Optica Student Chapters proved once again just how amazing they are. More than 40 student chapters hosted an event right before or on 16 May 2025 — the International Day of Light. They watched quantum-related programs, engaged in learning exercises and (based on the photos we received) consumed a significant amount of pizza.
In one magical day, they helped us showcase what Optica stands for – the sharing of knowledge, connecting with colleagues and helping the world to recognize the importance of light in science.
Every expert on‑screen started as a student, sending a clear message: If they can do it, so can we.
