Eric Zhang

Eric Zhang is a Research Staff Member and Manager at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center. As part of IBM Quantum, Eric currently leads a yield and characterization effort for quantum processors, focusing on the optimization of superconducting circuits for experimental quantum computing. He has co-authored over 50 journal and conference publications and holds 10 patents.
Prior to joining IBM, Eric completed his Ph.D. at Princeton University, where he specialized in mid-infrared optical spectroscopy and integrated on-chip platforms for optical sensing. He received his B.A.Sc. in Engineering Physics from the University of Toronto, developing passive photonic devices for optical communications and sensing.
Outside of his role as Optica Ambassador, Eric enjoys spending time with his family, playing the piano, basketball and boxing, and watering his plants.
