Dr. Saheer Cheemadan
Dr. Saheer Cheemadan is an early-career researcher and educator specialized in photonics and thin-film materials. He earned his Ph.D. in Physics from the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli, (NITT), India. His doctoral work focused on the preparation of transparent conducting oxide (TCO) thin films using RF magnetron sputtering and the fabrication of rectifying junctions for potential UV light detection applications. He also holds an M.Sc. and M.Phil. in Physics from School of Physics, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli.
Dr. Cheemadan has extensive hands-on experience in thin-film deposition techniques such as sputtering, evaporation, spray pyrolysis, and chemical bath deposition, as well as in establishing optoelectronic measurements and analyzing structural and functional properties of advanced materials. His research also encompasses photonics and the analysis of optical signals in the UV, visible, and near-infrared spectral regions. He is an expert in a wide range of characterization techniques like Raman spectroscopy, SEM, AFM, EDX, photoluminescence, four-point probe, XRD, UV–Vis spectroscopy etc. He published five international journal articles and delivered six presentations at international conferences during his Ph.D. program.
During his Doctoral research at National Institute of Technology, he has served as an instructor for engineering undergraduate students at the Physics Lab and Resident Student Counselor (RSC-part time) at Agate hostel. After completing Ph.D. in 2019, he joined the Department of Physics at MAMO College, Calicut, as an Assistant Professor. In 2024, he was awarded First Prize (Grade A) in the Teacher’s Science Research Project Competition, representing SOHS Areekode at the State Science Fair organized by the State Education Department, Government of Kerala.
Dr. Cheemadan plays an active role in the optics and photonics community. He was Founder and Advisor of the MAMOC-OPTICA Student Chapter and has served as Chair of Optica’s Optical Metrology Technical Group. He is also one of Optica’s Travelling Lecturers, contributing to the society’s global outreach and educational initiatives.
Beyond research and academia, he is deeply passionate about teaching, outreach, and science communication. He is the co-founder of Bee Lab School LLP, an innovative platform dedicated to fostering creativity and curiosity in science teaching and learning process.
