Dr. Amol Delmade
Amol is a senior photonics engineer and product strategist with Plot Photonics based in Dublin, Ireland. He has 8+ years of academic and industry experience in tackling various challenges focused on optical communication, microwave photonics, and photonics for satellite payload. He received PhD in 2022 from Dublin City University, Ireland, and completed a two-year research project with the European Space Agency and Science Foundation Ireland. He received master’s and bachelor’s degrees from IIT Madras & SGGSIET, respectively, in India. Amol has authored/co-authored more than 40 papers in reputed peer-reviewed journals and international conferences and these papers have been cited more than 450 times.
At Pilot Photonics, Dr. Amol has been focused on increasing the market readiness of products, performing system validation, market-product fit analysis, securing technical and R&D partnerships, and representing the company at various events. Amol was recently included in the Photonics 100 list for 2026 by Electro-Optics, recognizing the industry's most innovative person. He has received the Best Master's Thesis award from the Electrical Engineering Department of IIIT Madras and the IEEE Photonics Society Graduate Student Scholarship during his PhD research.
Amol has been an active volunteer with Optica and the IEEE Photonics Society (IEEE PS) over the past ten years in various capacities. He was Secretary of the IIT Madras Optica Student Chapter between 2015-2016 and was Webinar officer for the Optica’s Optical Communication (PC) and Space Optics (PA) Technical groups in the last couple of years. He served as a vice-chair of the IEEE PS Newsroom for a year and was Editor for the Photonics Worldwide column for the IEEE PS Newsletter. He has received the Education and Public Engagement Champion award from the CONNECT and IPIC centers of Science Foundation Ireland in 2023 and 2021, respectively. He has been actively involved in the organization of the Hack Your Research Event at OFC, EOCO, and IPC conferences since 2023
