Color Appearance Research and Applications

This webinar is hosted By: Technical Group

08 April 2026 9:00 - 10:00
Eastern Daylight/Summer Time (US & Canada) (UTC -04:00)

The way we experience color across diverse viewing conditions remains one of the most fundamental and challenging problems in vision science. Despite decades of intensive research and modeling efforts, achieving a comprehensive prediction of color appearance in real-world contexts is still an open goal.

In this webinar, Prof. Ronnier Luo will explain the fundamentals of human color perception and introduce recent advances in modern color appearance models that aim to capture our visual experience across different environments and devices. Building on these foundations, he will discuss how such models can be applied in practice, with particular relevance for displays, cameras, and other imaging technologies. The webinar is intended both for researchers interested in the fundamentals of color vision and for professionals in industry who wish to understand how state-of-the-art models can improve color consistency, user experience, and cross-device communication.

Subject Matter Level: Intermediate- Assumes basic knowledge of the topic Intermediate

What You Will Learn:
• Fundamental principles of color perception and the factors influencing color appearance.
• How modern color appearance models (e.g., CAM16) are constructed and why they are essential for predicting perceived color.
• How color appearance models are used in real-world applications.

Who Should Attend:
• Academic and industry researchers interested in color science, color vision and imaging science.
• Academic and industry researchers seeking to apply color appearance models in industry settings.
