The field of quantum networking is experiencing a paradigm shift from single photon to entangled photon protocols driven by the increasing availability of entangled pair light sources. These technologies can now address many known limitations of first-generation Quantum Key Distribution, and enable applications such as networked quantum sensor arrays, quantum computers and quantum data centers.

With so many diverse applications, the question of broadly compatible infrastructure is of current interest. At its core, this infrastructure must support the distribution and preservation of high quality, useful entanglement through the quantum channel to connect quantum devices. Qunnect has pioneered a networking product suite, utilizing atoms to generate, store, preserve and validate polarization entangled photon pairs distributed over existing, commercial-grade telecom fiber. Atoms provide numerous advantages for a universal infrastructure as they provide a local high precision reference which can be placed at every node in the network. They also generate entangled pairs with spectral characteristics that are ideal for increasingly complex protocols and interfacing to quantum memories, sensors and computers.

In this webinar hosted by the Optical Communications Technical Group, Noel Goddard will discuss the advances and open challenges in the field and detail Qunnect’s approach to building a quantum network infrastructure of the future.

Subject Matter Level: Introductory - Assumes little previous knowledge of the topic

What You Will Learn:
• Single photon vs entangled photon quantum networking approaches
• Utility of entangled photons for applications beyond secure communications
• Criteria necessary for building a useful quantum network infrastructure

Who Should Attend:
• Quantum curious (non-experts in classical networking technologies)
• Researchers interested in quantum networking applications

About the Presenter: Noel Goddard from Qunnect

Noel is the CEO of Qunnect, a company pioneering hardware to transform the existing telecom infrastructure into quantum networks for distributed entanglement applications. Prior to this role, she was an investor with the Accelerate NY Seed Fund, where she built a successful portfolio of deep technology and life science companies in NY state. Noel is a serial entrepreneur, having founded/led two biotech startup companies. Before joining the startup community, Noel was a professor of physics at Hunter College, CUNY and a Junior Fellow of Harvard University.
