About Optica Biophotonics Congress

The Optica Biophotonics Congress is an annual meeting with two alternating scopes. In even years, the congress focuses on biomedical optics; in odd years, the focus shifts to optics in the life sciences.

Optics in the Life Sciences

The Optica Biophotonics Congress: Optics in the Life Sciences is the premiere venue to learn and discuss advancements in biomedical science and engineering that are finding their way into clinical use for disease treatment and patient care.

The congress explores the latest tools and techniques in microscopic optical imaging, including photoacoustic, endoscopic, light field/sheet and multiphoton approaches; the development and use of advanced contrast agents and label-free imaging methods; the manipulation and study of organisms, cells, and organelles by light; and the use of optical tools to follow and determine the effectiveness of medical treatments and drugs.

The congress also presents the latest results from studies of the structure and function of the brain and approaches being used to stimulate and monitor neural activity.  Another recurring theme presented is the research and development work to clinical practice of translational biophotonics.

  • Discover the latest optical techniques used to follow disease pathogenesis, track individual diseased cell progression and delineate cancer margins in-vivo.
  • Follow the latest developments in the study of cell and disease responses to various drug treatments and drug delivery techniques.
  • See the latest developments in imaging technologies for remote health monitoring.
  • Learn about the use of deep neural nets, machine learning, and AI in biomedical data analysis and interpretation.
