Kenneth E Moore earned his Ph.D. in 1991 from the University of Arizona, College of Optical Sciences. He worked briefly at Lawrence Livermore National Labs before founding Zemax, LLC in 1998. The company develops software and services for engineers, researchers, and students.

Moore is a Fellow of OSA and SPIE. He received the 2010 David Richardson Medal from OSA “for the development of state-of-the-art optical design and analysis software combining the capabilities required by the expert designer and the ease of use and accessibility needed for an occasional optics analysis user.”
