Frequently asked questions and answers about Optica's Membership.

Terms of 1, 3, 5, or 10 years and lifetime memberships are available. Membership information and enrollment/renewal forms are available online.

Visit Optica Publishing Group's Digital Library (formerly OSA Publishing) and click on “Log In.” You will be prompted to login using your email address and your password. (Note: If you do not know your password, you can reset it online.) New users will be asked to agree to the terms of the “Optica User Agreement.” If you are a returning subscriber, once you login, you will have access to your 50 downloads from Optica Publishing Group's Digital Library, OPN Online, Optics Express and any additional journals you may have purchased.

To access OPN online, please visit the OPN online website. You will be prompted to login using your email address and your password. (Note: If you do not know your password, you can reset it online.)

To access “Physics Today” online you must first activate an account by responding to an email from scitationmail.org.  The email is sent shortly after you join Optica. For further assistance with accessing Physics Today, contact AIP directly by email: help@scitation.org or phone: +1 516.576.2664.

There are several ways to opt-out of receiving text messages from Optica:

  1. Reply STOP to a text message.
  2. Visit the Login page ("Login" access is located at the top blue bar of every page). Once logged in, click on the “Contact Information” tab followed by the “Edit” button in the “Communication Preferences” section to opt-out of text messages.
  3. Contact Customer Service at +1.202.416.1907 (Worldwide). Our staff replies to messages within one business day.

Once you sign up for automatic renewals, Optica will charge the credit card you provide before your membership expires.  You will receive at least two reminders from Optica prior to this transaction. Your membership renewal will be the same as your current membership option and you will be charged at the then current rate*. Your membership will continue to renew unless you cancel.

*After five consecutive years, Early Career Members are transitioned to Individual Membership.

There are several ways to join or renewal Optica membership.  Please visit the Membership section of the website for details.

Please allow at least 3-4 weeks for receipt of your personalized member certificate signed by the Optica CEO in the mail (timing varies by location).

Members may sign up for automatic renewals during the online join and renew process. Members may also sign up by logging in on Optica.org, visiting “My Membership” and clicking on the “Automatic Renew?” option. You will then be given instructions to enter the credit card information you would like Optica to use for your renewal payment.

Yes. Optica accepts payments for automatic renewals made through American Express, Diners Club, Discover, JCB, MasterCard, Visa and debit cards with Visa/MasterCard logo.

Optica text messages provide updates on your membership and exclusive offers and opportunities.

To sign up, visit the Login page ("Login" access is located at the top blue bar of every page). Once logged in, click on the “Contact Information” tab followed by the “Edit” button in the “Communication Preferences” section to opt-in to receive text messages.

Text messages can be sent to members residing outside the United StatesStandard message and data rates will apply.

Individuals with a ten (10) year or greater record of professional and/or service accomplishment since the time of their first degree in an optics and/or optics related field are encouraged to apply for a Senior Member designation. If selected, individuals must have an active Optica Membership.

Optica Fellows are welcome to submit a designation request for Senior Membership.

Senior Member applications, including two brief endorsement statements from Optica Members, are due no later than February 28th of each year and are reviewed in July of that same year.

By choosing auto renewals, you authorize Optica to renew your membership automatically by charging your credit or debit card approximately 7 days before your membership’s expiration date. You will receive notification 60 days in advance of the transaction.

You may cancel this authorization by providing Optica written notice twenty 20 days prior to deduction or by visiting “My Membership” to change your auto-renew preference. Your membership will continue to renew automatically unless you cancel.

Message and data rates may apply. By opting in for text messaging, you consent to receive prerecorded SMS or text messages from Optica sent through an automated dialing system. Your consent for text messages is not a condition of membership. You may opt-out of text messages at any time by replying STOP to a text message or by logging into your Optica account and updating your preferences.

Individual Members and Early Career Members are eligible for automatic renewals.
