Frequency combs have revolutionized the field of high-precision metrology. Now, there is a growing demand for fully stabilized optical frequency combs for space applications. Menlo Systems has been pushing the boundaries of technology in terms of robustness, precision, and autonomous operation in the lab, but also for space applications.

Three successful sounding rocket missions with fundamental physics experiments have been performed in the last few years. In this webinar hosted by the Space Optics Technical Group, Dag Schmidt will explain the process of space-qualifying frequency combs with a focus on the COMPASSO project of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), with the long-term aim of improving the precision of global navigation satellite systems (GNSS). Recently, a full engineering model of the Space Comb that will be launched to the ISS in a few years has been delivered. Finally, Dr. Sprenger will give an overview of potential space applications for optical frequency combs.

What You Will Learn:
• Optical Frequency Combs for Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)
• Qualification of Optical Frequency Comb and Components for harsh Space Enviornment
• Potential Space Applications of Optical Frequency Comb

Who Should Attend:
• Master, PhD, Postdoctoral and academic researcher working in Space Optics
• Industry people looking to qualify components for harsh space environment
• Space Technology Enthusiasts

About the Presenter: Dag Schmidt from Menlo Systems GmbH

Dr. Dag Schmidt studied Physics at the technical university in Karlsruhe and the Eberhard-Karls-University in Tübingen, Germany. He specialized in Quantum-optics, atom- and laser-physics and gained his Diploma and PhD in Physics at the University of Tübingen, in the group of Prof. Dr. Claus Zimmermann. He joined Menlo Systems in 2017 as Field Service Engineer. Since 2018, Dag has been working as Product Manager for Optical Frequency Combs at Menlo Systems, adapting these high-tech systems to the demanding applications of our customers. Additionally, since 2022, he is also responsible for Quantum-laser-systems, which provide sub-Hz CW-laser outputs for high-end applications like Quantum-computing/sensing and optical clocks.
