Honoring Kashiko Kodate
Japan Women’s University

Submitted by Satoshi Kawata Osaka University

Kashiko Kodate

Kashiko Kodate has encouraged and inspired more than 130 women students in Optics in her laboratory. More than 30 of these students now have their Ph.D. or MSc degrees. Professor Kodate has contributed to a number of activities for Women in Physics and Optics, including the Japanese Government Project on Multi-career Path Support Model for Female Researchers as the Principal Leader. Without her enthusiasm, confidence and advanced vision, we would not have achieved the current level of discussion around equity and diversity in Japan. I would like to express my sincere appreciation for her hard work and contribution to the optics community!
