On International Day of Women & Girls in STEM, I am honoring Emanuela Pompei, astronomer at the European Southern Observatory (ESO). I had the pleasure to meet Emanuela in the middle of the chilean desert, when I was on a mission to service the astronomical instrument NIRPS as an optics specialist. She was just the nicest person, with a lot of stories, always willing to help with her expertise. She made an everlasting impression on me and I hope to have the chance to collaborate with her again in the future.
