About the Speaker

Paul Meissner is the Vice President and General Manager of Applied Materials’ Photonics Platforms Business, which leverages the company’s materials engineering expertise to set a new standard for wearable display systems: glasses that not only enable real-time AI-powered experiences like language translation, memory recall, and vision search but are lightweight, comfortable, and ready for everyday use. Reporting directly to CEO Gary Dickerson, Paul and his team are accelerating these next generation of visual computing experiences and remains focused on lowering the cost of AR devices to boost accessibility and manufacturability.

Through its photonic platform capability, the group has also pioneered Applied Materials’ unique photonic interconnect technology, which is gaining interest from leading AI companies.

Paul started his career at Applied materials, spending nine years in a variety of technical and marketing roles before becoming a General Manager. He moved to the Photonics Industry in 2003, taking senior executive positions at Coherent Inc. and leading two venture-backed startups to successful exits as CEO.

A native of Silicon Valley, Paul graduated Cum Laude from U.C. Berkeley in Materials Science and as the #1 student in Materials Science, with his MS and PhD in Photonic Materials from Stanford University, with a minor in Electrical Engineering.
