I visited India last April at the invitation of the Jaipur Engineering College and Research Centre (JECRC) to give a keynote lecture at their International Conference on Communication, Optical and Microelectronics: "The Emerging Trends" 2019. On April 6, I met the administrators and faculty of JECRC and participated in a culturally rich opening ceremony for the conference. Included as part of the conference was the inauguration of JECRC's new Student Chapter and I was privileged to represent OSA at this memorable event. I then gave a lecture on "Elastomeric diffraction gratings and volume holography of Bessel beams," my current fields of interest. The faculty and staff of JECRC were superb hosts and I was overwhelmed by the hospitality I received in Jaipur. Through JECRC's generosity, I was able to visit several of Jaipur's historic sites. My hosts even managed to bring me to Agra to experience the wonder that is the Taj Mahal. I will always be thankful for this memorable trip made possible by the OSA Traveling Lecturer Program and JECRC.

Herbert Walther Award - Recognize a colleague for their distinguished contributions to quantum optics and atomic physics, and leadership in the international scientific community. The Walther Award is co-sponsored by OSA and Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft (DPG). Nominations for the 2020 award should be submitted to DPG.

John Tyndall Award - Nominate a colleague who has made outstanding contributions in any area of optical-fiber technology, including optical fibers themselves, the optical components used in fiber systems, as well as transmission systems and networks using fibers. The U.S. National Science Foundation and the National Science and Technology Council has issued a Request for Information (RFI) on National Strategic Overview Quantum Information Science which seeks input from the quantum research community on quantum information science as it relates to recommendations from the "National Strategic Overview for Quantum Information Science" and the recently passed National Quantum Initiative Act. The RFI poses eight questions to the community on the subjects of the technical challenges and opportunities, the role of industry, labs, and universities, workforce needs, and international collaboration. The 14th Pacific Rim Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO Pacific Rim) will be held at the International Convention Centre, Sydney, Australia from 2 to 6 August 2020. The Conference will cover all major areas in lasers and optoelectronics along with tutorial sessions, invited sessions and workshops in areas of current interest. Companies selling laser and other optical products into the global machine tool sector should expect a decline in sales in 2019 near 10%, compared to 2018. This would place this year's sales for components and systems in the category near the value for 2017, second only to 2018, according to OIDA's mid-year forecast.

The AIM Photonics Academy has been busy, with some remarkably good TED-Ed videos on integrated photonics and upcoming summer programs. The AIM Academy is the roadmapping, education and workforce development part of the AIM Photonics institute.
