You're invited to help write OSA'S 100TH Anniversary Story!

OSA will be 100 years old in 2016. Please share your personal reflections and photos with us so that we continue to build on this legacy. Tell us what being an OSA Member has meant to you and your career.

Register today for a 2015 IONS conference. Connect with students and luminaries from around the world.

The Optical Society is a proud sponsor of seven International OSA Network of Students (IONS) conferences in 2015 located in Germany, China, USA, Mexico, Tunisia, Spain and New Zealand. IONS conferences are organized for students, by students who are part of the most active chapters and feature technical programming, chapter management and cultural content. Visit osa.org/ions for links to the conference websites and information on how to register.

Propose an Incubator for OSA’s Centennial

OSA Incubators are designed to provide focused experiences that connect innovators, deliver insights and spark explorations at the cutting edge of optics. Researchers, engineers, and business leaders meet to discuss new and burgeoning fields in a way that cannot be achieved through traditional meetings.

In 2016, as OSA celebrates its centennial, the Incubator Program will hold the Centennial Incubator Symposium at Frontiers in Optics. The Symposium will showcase selected Incubators held in 2016. As OSA looks to the next 100 years in optics, Incubator topics, with their focus on what’s to come, will surely help lead the way.

Do you have an idea for an Incubator program? You can learn more on the OSA website and propose your own Incubator.

For additional information on 2016 Centennial Incubators please email OSAIncubator@osa.org.

Participate in Capitol Hill Day – September 10, 2015

The Optical Society (OSA), along with its National Photonics Initiative (NPI) partners, is organizing a Capitol Hill Day taking place in Washington, DC, on September 10, 2015.  With so many new members of Congress, this is a great opportunity to establish a relationship with your Congressional offices and to educate your members of Congress on the importance of optics and photonics.

Each participant will be placed on a combined society team based on your geographic region. There will be training on the evening of Wednesday, September 9 in Washington, DC, focusing on the NPI, how to have an effective meeting, and details on what to discuss with the Congressional offices. On September 10, you and your team will visit your Congressional representatives. Society staff will schedule and coordinate your day and will escort you to all of your meetings.

If you are interested in participating in the September Capitol Hill Day, please sign up on the NPI CVD webpage

OSA Journals Lead Rankings in the Optics Category in the 2015 Edition of the Journal Citation Reports® (JCR)

The Optical Society (OSA) is pleased to announce that its journal portfolio again leads the Optics category in the latest edition of the Journal Citation Reports® (JCR) (Thomson Reuters, 2015). Not only does OSA remain the foremost publisher in the field with the largest number of articles published (35%), but its high quality content also received the most citations (45%) of the 86 titles included in this year’s Optics category.

Announcing Redesigned Article Pages for Optics Letters

Following the redesign of the pages of Applied Optics, JOSA A, and JOSA B in March, OSA has recently redesigned the article layout of Optics Letters. The new look will give the article pages a cleaner, more modern appearance and will allow essential information such as author names to take prominence. Papers published in the new format have begun appearing in the journal.

Go to OSA Publishing’s Digital Library and view manuscript templates for the new format. You can also check out an editorial about the redesign from Optics Letters Editor-in-Chief Xi-Cheng Zhang.

Opportunities

International Workshop on Compact EUV & X-ray Light Sources

This October OSA is getting ready to host its third meeting in a series on Compact EUV & X-Ray Light Sources.

Like last year, this year’s workshop will be collocated with the International Symposium on Extreme Ultraviolet Lithography to be held this year in Maastricht, Netherlands. This will continue to build upon the work began at the2013 Incubator again providing a unique opportunity for the EUV and X-ray light source developers to interact with potential semiconductor industry users, learn about their fundamental and practical needs, and assess the current status of EUV/Soft X-ray sources.

In 2016 this meeting will join the OSA High-Brightness Sources and Light-Driven Interactions Congress as the Compact Light Sources topical meeting (XRAY).

Registration will be open soon so please visit the Workshop website for the latest information. If you are interested in learning about sponsorship opportunities with this meeting, please email OSAIncubator@osa.org.
