Get your marshmallows ready and grab a seat around the campfire! The Optica Technical Group on Fiber Modeling and Fabrication invites you to join them for a campfire session on fluoride glasses and fiber technology.
This campfire session will start with a talk from Dr. Mohammed Saad. Dr. Saad will be discussing his career, including starting IRPhotonics and its merger into Thorlabs, as well as his work on fluoride fibers.
Following the talk from Dr. Saad, the remainder of the campfire session will be open for discussion so come with your thoughts and questions ready. You will be able to turn your camera and mic on or off to participate as you choose.
About Our Speaker:
Dr. Mohammed Saad has more than 40 years experience in infrared optical materials and fibers, in academic and industrial environments. He has more than 70 publications, 3 chapters in specialized books and more than 25 invited talks in international conferences. He chaired many SPIE conferences. He is member of technical committee of international conferences. He is senior member of SPIE and Optica (formerly OSA).
Dr. Saad obtained his Ph.D. in 1986, from Rennes University in France. After that he held an assistant professor position at Oujda Mohamed 1er University in Morocco. Then he was senior researcher at “Laboratoir des Matériaux Avancés” at Rennes University. In 1996 He joined the National Optics Institute (INO) in Quebec City in Canada, as head of mid-Infrared optical fibers department. In 2003 he founded IRPhotonics, which was acquired by Thorlabs in 2013. At Thorlabs, he held the position of senior scientist until December 31, 2020.
