OIDA Sponsored Webinar: Photonic Crystal Design Within the OptiFDTD Environment
18 August 2021 10:00 - 11:00
Eastern Time (US & Canada) (UTC - 05:00)The webinar will be exploring the design and analysis functionality of the OptiFDTD product as applied to photonic crystal based structures.
There will be two primary objectives:
- Examination of the fundamental crystal structure in terms of its resulting band structure and transmission properties
- Analysis of defect states and the structures assembled through the use of these defects.

Scott Newman, Product Lead & Research Scientist OptiFDTD, Optiwave
Scott Newman received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Carleton University with a focus in computational electromagnetics as applied to photonic quasicrystals. His postdoctoral fellowship with the University of Ottawa developed computational models for stimulated Brillouin scattering.
He is currently working at Optiwave where he is overseeing product development for the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (OptiFDTD) and Beam Propagation (OptiBPM) products.
His fields of expertise are computational electromagnetics and periodic structures in photonics.
