Join the OSA Short Wavelength Sources and Attosecond/High Field Physics Technical Group for this virtual seminar to learn about the most recent developments in the field of ultrafast optics and imaging with coherent X-Rays. The virtual seminar will feature presentations from Dr. Caterina Vozzi, Istituto di Fotonica e Nanotecnologie (CNR-IFN), and Dr. Giulia Fulvia Mancini, University of Pavia and EPFL, which will be followed by a question and answer period.

During the seminar, Dr. Vozzi will discuss the recent developments of ultrafast x-ray spectroscopy and its application to material science. Dr. Mancini will discuss recent advances in ultrafast coherent imaging for the observation of functionality of nanomaterials and interfaces.

Subject Matter Level: Intermediate - Assumes basic knowledge of the topic

What You Will Learn:

  • Ultrafast x-ray spectroscopy: a novel techniques for the investigation of smart materials
  • Correlative approaches in ultrafast imaging for materials science

Who Should Attend:

  • Young and established researchers in the general field of ultrafast photonics
  • Graduate students, especially those that are seeking opportunities for their next career step

About the Presenters:

Caterina Vozzi, Istituto di Fotonica e Nanotecnologie (CNR-IFN)

Caterina Vozzi is a Research Director of the Italian National Research Council. She leads the Ultrafast dynamics in matter group at the Institute for Photonics and Nanotechnologies. Her research activity has been devoted to atomic and molecular physics, and in particular on the physics and applications of high-order harmonic generation, in the generation and characterization of isolated attosecond pulses, in high-order harmonic spectroscopy and the development of high energy parametric sources for strong-field applications.

Giulia Fulvia Mancini, University of Pavia and EPFL

Giulia Fulvia Mancini is Leader of the Research Group in Ultrafast Imaging at the Physics Department at the University of Pavia, and P.I. of the project ERC Starting Grant ULTRAIMAGE. Her research is focused on the study of structure-property relationships in functional nanomaterials and interfaces through novel correlative imaging and scattering modalities, which integrate ultrafast electron sources with X-rays sources from high-harmonic generation and facility scale.
