The journey to higher precision freeform optics

Freeform optical surfaces have been offering optical designers and system integrators the ability to design lighter weight, off-axis and more compact systems for over three decades. Manufacturing innovations are gradually increasing the availability of precision freeform optics. This talk will overview examples of challenges and successes that have been encountered in the manufacturing, testing, and aligning of freeforms, highlighting the importance of partnership between optical designers, fabricators and system integrators in the process
